The dedicated R&D linac ARES at DESY (Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron) is now fully operational and able to produce electron beams at a nominal energy of 155 MeV and delivers them to users.
ARES generates and accelerates ultra-short, high quality electron beams to operate and test novel diagnostics and advanced high gradient accelerating schemes. In addition, medical applications like VHEE and electron-based CT imaging methods are tested.
